After hearing a couple weeks ago that Disney announced there was a Obi Wan tv series in the works including the actors of Hayden Christensen (Anakin/Darth Vader) and Ewan McGregor (Obi Wan) being the stars, that was a dream come true for my generation of Star Wars fans who grew up watching the prequel episodes 1-3. This news comes in clutch fresh off a bombshell Mandalorian season 2 and gives true fans something to look greatly forward to.
The rumor of the Kenobi series is that it is supposed to be set in between episodes 3 and 4 and will highlight just what Obi Wan and Darth Vader were up to during this time. My guess is that they will have Obi Wan watch over a young Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader will be doing what he does best… hunting the jedi. Also they are kicking tires of brigning Liam Neeson into the new series to play as Qui Gon force ghost. While episode 1 is not the best Star Wars movie, it certainly beats out the new junker movies (will touch more on that in a sec) and bringing back characters PEOPLE ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT is a big step in restoring Star Wars to its once past glory. As long as they don’t bring Jar Jar Binks back that is.
So which movies/shows are actually worth watching? (Not episodes 7-9)
I have said it like five times now and will say it again, THE NEW MOVIES ARE AWFUL! Don’t pay any attention to the following films:
Episode 7- total complete utter rip off of episode 4 with characters nobody cares about. Period. That is all you need to know about this one.
Episode 8- I don’t hate this movie in itself because I think the Luke, Kylo Ren, and Snoke scenes are pretty awesome and the storyline is actually pretty good but this movie literally erases everything episode 7 got our hopes up for and stole it right out of our minds (Rey goes from being Luke’s kid to a literal ‘nobody’).
Episode 9- so while everybody hated the direction episode 8 went, JJ Abrams mistakenly tries to ERASE AGAIN what the plot was and now all of a sudden Palpatine is back and Rey is his granddaughter. Would have been a cool storyline in general, but this literally came out of nowhere with no backstory to how this was possible and they didn’t explain how Palpatine survived episode 6. Would of been good to know that at least but nope, and also Rey kills Palpatine over alllllll the other jedi that fought him by just blocking his force lightning with two lightsabers instead of one. How idiotic.
So seriously, is there any good new Star Wars movies?
Rogue One and Solo– Two of my instant personal favorites. This fills in plot holes from the original films like how they got the Death Star plans to how Han Solo did the Kessel Run (BTW I think it is awesome how Han “Solo” got his last name https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6VXLoK0B). The way the Rogue One features the Darth Vader scenes and how it ties right into the beginning of episode 4 is genius. Solo also shows some great scenes with how Han got into being a smuggler and getting acquainted with Chewbacca, and I personally think the actor (Alden Ehrenreich) who played a young Han Solo couldn’t of been a better fit to Harrison Ford’s shoes. Also, having Game Of Thrones very own Emilia Clarke (SMOKE!) and Childish Gambino as main actors for Solo is a major added bonus. Movies like these Rogue One and Solo ADD to the legacy of Star Wars and again, GIVES THE FANS WHAT THEY WANT TO SEE!
So Dear Disney: Please throw away the garbage that is episodes 7-9 and start over. Or just erase them totally and just focus on making more movies like Solo or Rogue One that tie into the older movies, or tv shows like the Obi Wan one coming soon. Nobody gives a ripper about Rey, Poe, or Finn. Please give us more of the original characters and Baby Yoda. Sincerely, every serious Star Wars fan.
